Evidence of my Innovation:
The following artifacts divulge my desire to use innovation and creativity in my lesson plans, to engage my students, and to check for comprehension. Efective urban educators are Innovative Practitioners who are able to demonstrate the ability to problem solve, develop ideas, and use creative methods.
Artifact
Description
The above artifact exemplifies my understanding of using various instructional strategies required by InTASC Standard 8. The Unit Plan is centered on past times and hobbies and is a comprehensive (mini) unit plan for high school Spanish learners (novice low to novice mid). Within the unit plan, I implement strategies spanning across the three learning domains: cognitive, affective, and interpersonal. I also introduce creative strategies such as utilizing various modes of technology, speaking and listening activities and cultural comparisons.
Reflection
This unit plan is designed in order to incorporate the 5 C's as outlined in the Michigan Standards and Benchmarks for World Languages. Additionally, I aimed to incorporate Grade Level Content Expectations for Spanish which are not focused on in most language classrooms: Creation, Analyze in Context, Analyze and Make Connections. For students to develop a deep understanding of Spanish they must actively participate and experience the language through various modes and activities such as visual, composition, oral and auditory. This Unit Plan also allows me to take a deeper look at cultural past times that helped my students make cultural comparisons and utilize higher order thinking skills.
